The Tax System Is Not Ideal

The tax system can help dramatically, but it's a blunt instrument that often doesn't really reach those who need it the most. I sometimes struggle with these comparisons to some kind of wonderland of European social democracy as being wonderful for all people and especially low-income types. We can learn a ton from Europe just to be clear, but it is hard to think of it as a paradise on some of these dimensions.
