I had no intention of writing a textbook and then someone published this, approached me 20 years ago. But my colleagues reminded me that I'd basically bagged the crap out of every other sports medicine book so I probably should have it crack myself. So we thought, oh, we really have to make it a bit more rigorous academically. And also there's been an explosion, the amount of research and information available in the sports med scenario. It takes about a year to write each edition; pretty much has to become an obsession for a three year period.
