There was a great fashion in the 80s and 90s to make central banks independent of political control. I think that went a bit wrong actually in the run up to the financial crisis because politicians thought, we don't need to worry about that. And then suddenly with a crisis with this crunch in 2007, 2008, you realize that that's a myth. Politicians have to get very, very involved.
