The Anglo-French Divide

Voltaire, the great philosopher, is in exile in England between 1776 and 1729. He publishes a set of letters, the English letters or the philosophical letters in 1734. They're letters all about them. And he says things like, you know, don't dismiss Descartes. Locke's essay concerning human understanding is translated into French in 1700 but pretty much syncs without trace.
