Is This a Complication of Pneumonia?
Dr. Montgomery: It's always really important to stop and think about why they're failing not just to throw additional antibiotics at them. Is it a complication from pneumonia such as an ampuyema or lung abscess? Do they have a resistant organism such as resistance, strepnummo, pseudomonas, MRSA? Or could it be a pneumonia mimicer such as cancer, vasculitis, eosinophilic pneumonia, or drug reaction? So in this patient's case, we get some more data. She successfully treated with a course of subtriaxin.
