Urban Anthropology and Social Network Analysis in Britain
In the 1940s and 50s, we often think of that as a period when anthropology is kind of in its dominant form of British social anthropology. But there's this kind of minority report within the UK of community studies - it's striking that it's in the US as well. These are figures like Michael Young, Kenneth Little in Edinburgh who does important work on race and migration in the UK. Elizabeth Bot really kind of burst out of that paradigm by coming up with this idea of the social network. And so I think it's a very interesting time, seemingly as John Barnes does as well.
