What Is a Cistern, a Micvaot?
It's a jewish ritual bath that allowed workers who were harvesting these olives to harvest and process the olive oil in a state of ritual purity. This is something that most people were not attuned to in the 19 fifties. Most of the time, when you found a plastered water feature in an excavation, you just identify it as a cistern for simply storing water.
