The Church of England, a Church of Tyranny and Absolute Rule
In 16 33, the king appointed a priest named william laud as the new archbishop of canterbury. He embarks on an aggressive programme to beautify and embellish the churches. And in particular, he insists on moving the communion tables where the eucharist is performed. The traditional catholic teaching is that when you bless the eucharistic host, it transsubstantiates into the body of christ. So there's a great symbolic significance in where and how you perform this sacrament. Ite, so laud insisted on move the communion tables back into the chancels again and setting up altar rails,. sort of symbolic barrier separating the chancel from the congregation.
