The Scandinavian Peninsula
The Viking Age is really defined by this mixture of terror and desire. Their attitude to this wider world was one of wonder and curiosity but also fear, a constant awareness of danger from outside the home. They lived basically in a cluster of countries in far northern Europe, which we today collectively call Scandinavia. The natural vegetation is mainly evergreen forests with also some plains and marshes.
