The Complexity of Nostalgia
When you transplant something into a simple environment it runs amok precisely because there are insufficient constraints. This is what inevitably happens when you begin imposing constraints on something that is inherently complex and difficult to understand. The frame problem is that there are always a vast number of unintended side effects. I think nostalgia does exactly the same thing it just projects it into the past rather than the future. It's like an axial age revolution shift where we try and stop evolving traits in a complicated fashion and we try to evolve our capacity for evolution in a complex fashion. How do we get complex dynamical systems that are have a capacity to presumably avoid this?
