The prohibition era, which lasted from 1919 to 1933, banned the production and sale of all alcohol. It's thought by many that this declaration of the war on drugs was just a reaction to public opinion. A man called John Olukman says it was actually a way to disrupt both the anti-war hippie community and the African American population. He said: 'We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana'
