Is There a Neuro Physiological Basis to Any Higher State of Consciousness?

For a long time i've appreciated that there's a neuro physiological basis to any higher state of consciousness. And the view would be that everything has a kind of counter weight to it on the level of mind. So even if somebody has an awakening experiencer, maybe they experience that union with everything, or union with whatever they mayht call that,. There's a kind of downward motion that comes that pulls you back out of that experience. This is wherei comes in to try to sort of negate that difficulty and error.
