Milton's Blindness
Milton wrote a sonnet about his blindness in 1652. He tried various treatments to cure it, including bloodletting. A lot of people basically said that his blindness was God punishing him. But Milton wasn't quite so sure and suspected he'd had some digestive trouble as well.
