The Importance of Reading Books

The point of thinking about ethics in these terms is not necessarily to set up a large system of propositions, all of which must be followed. It's to give you guidance in thinking about why you act for certain reasons, whether your reasons are defensible or not. We ought not to imagine that it can be derived like geometry. I would call it a creative and productive ambiguity.
