The barrier is just much higher for South Asian women because of this kind of preference for females' occlusion. So it's about exactly as you say, increasing the economic returns, but lowering risks about the potential loss of honor. And I want to emphasize these traditional institutions are not insurmountable. There are many examples from India's historical experience that show that women can overcome these traditional institutions.
