John piper says the word autonomous means things that function separately. In other words, when i make a choice to sin, i am not making that choice based upon something outside of me controlling me to cause me to do that. So we can affirm that god is in heavens and he does whatever pleases him while still holding to the equally valid truth that the highest heavens belong to the lord but the earth he has given to mankind. This is a biblical of divine sovereignty and human autonomy. Man's will is free because god is sovereign. A god lessen sovereign would not bestow moral freedom upon his creatures.
