Jessica: I think there's almost like a dance between having a lot of details so that we can, maybe related to what Andrew was saying, the surprising elements. But you can't do, you can't reason only with surprise, right? And surprise can also overwhelm you and you may lose the signal as you look at a lot of noise,. So I really see that as a dance between these two things, the surprising, the particular, but also surfacing the signal. She says statistics is useful for this sort of middle set of problems; it helps us build up some sort of mental model kind of of the data generating process.
