The Language Model Is Bringing Together Different Issues

i wild be prepared to say that language models, in principle, can have some form of sementic competence. But that falls short of what we would call human level language understanding for various reasons. So i think the sarcastic paris metaphore is short selling the competence of language models. I have this kind of middle view that tries to do justice to what these models can do without inflating and anthropomorphising what they can do. It's a very stalk distinction between form and meaning. Ah, ther are also some in wa wa p. Can't go into details on on that, and i'm currently warking on on a paper that gets into vhisies ideas.
