The Long-Term Outcomes of New Occurrence Atrial Fib in the ICU
What are the long term outcomes for patients who develop newly discovered atrial fib in the ICU? It's a great question and it's fascinating to me because if you look at patients five-year outcomes after having had new onset atrial fibrillation during sepsis. Those patients compared to those without atrialfib have higher risks of mortality over five years, high risk of heart failure,. High risk of stroke and about a 40% chance of developing atrialFib again in the year after their discharge.
