Space Colonization
A common theme in science fiction is for space colonization to start slowly with great big arc ships traveling at a fraction of light speed. It tends to be assumed some or even all of these ships will get their destination and find some faster vessel launched after them has already arrived. The latter could be possible as it's an easy way to grab some extra colonists and cargo, but in such a scenario I could imagine people bypassing those ships or even pirating them. They're by jumping their claim on a new world they're already taking a bit of a thief or predatory role.
