Voices from the Data Frontier

This chapter explores the exploitative conditions faced by data workers tasked with AI training, focusing on the rise in demand for their labor and the emotional toll of their work. It features the Data Workers Inquiry initiative, which aims to empower these individuals by enabling them to voice their experiences and challenges. Through personal accounts and systemic analysis, the chapter highlights the psychological trauma and societal invisibility of data workers, particularly those from conflict-affected backgrounds.
