The Principle of Conservation in the Universe

Physicists of this age like to do calculations about billiard balls, right? So you can take the kinetic energy of the first ball and then it hits another one. And so you can do simple calculations there and see that kinetic energy is conserved in these systems. Just because something is conserved, why do we care? Because it reveals something about the inner workings of the universe.
