"I discourage the confusion that comes with thinking that I've given my child a unit study on Asia means I don't have to study literature now because we covered literature no you didn't," she says. "The argument over diversity is really confusion of terms so with regard to literature then the question is not how can I give my child through literature a diverse picture of human experience?" She adds: "This is not the place to choose the B team you choose the A team and guess what the A team is the books that have stood the test of time."
