The songs of bakti are called either kirtan or bahajan. And a kirtan is a more formally composed and recited song. Whereas the bahaja is usually more open and it can be improvisational. It involves some form of call and response with the audience, thus sort of involving specialized singers and the general audience in a kind of joint performance that seeks to create a mystical state of mind.
