The Importance of Morality in War

In principle, harming innocent people is a side effect of action that will save an even greater number of innocent people can be justified. As I said before, it's a question of proportionality and people disagree about the relative numbers here. Nobody has a precise formulation for exactly how many people can be sacrificed in the course of saving some larger number of other people. One thing that just war theorists tend to agree on though is that it matters whether the innocent people are killed intentionally or unintentionally.
