The Long Shan Period in China - A Brief History
The site of wang chang gang is located in the deng fang basin of henan province. It's about 50 hectares in size, with fortification walls, internal enclosures within the site and large buildings that were either public structures or elite residences. The excavators estimate that building the rammed earth fortifications would have taken a thousand laborers, around a year. A dozen tributary villages under firm control, each providing 50 to a hundred laborers, could have built the entire site in a few years at most.
