The book of joel, the second prophet within the book of the 12, is a difficult book upon which to get a handle. Numerous dates have been suggested for the book, from the first half of the ninth to around the fourth centuries b c. Allusions to other nations and places, such as egypt, edom, philistia, greece, the sibeians and sidon, all need to be explained.
