Evolutionary Computation: A Data Science Technique

The idea of evolutionary computation is that we want to take this process called evolution, that we observe in nature, that produced basically all known life on Earth and perhaps even elsewhere. And so it's really easy to understand conceptually, right? You know, you can go through the four or five steps of the algorithm and understand at a high level what's going on without having to pour over dozens of pages of math. The third great, great part about it is that it has this concept of a fitness function, which basically allows you to tell the algorithm exactly what you want out of a solution.
