How to Get Your Baby to Sleep
In the first three to four months, really up to 16 weeks, babies need to be given the opportunity to sleep every one and a half to two hours of wakefulness. What you'd want to do is get them used to going down for naps, falling asleep without you holding them. A good gauge on whether or not it's a good bedtime for your baby is do they fall asleep within about 20 to 25 minutes.
