Putin's Military Experience Is a Part of His Persona
Putin is fascinated by the military, says former KGB chief Alexander Nekrassov. It's part of his macho persona as well as building a state-building legend, he adds. He has spent 20 years dumping huge amounts of money into military reform and fought wars at home and abroad. But in part that's precisely because from his point of view, that's what a state needs to do for its own sake - be tough on foreign enemies.
