I've heard numerous stories from people I know who have quit jobs or diverted from their careers to do serious, deep internal self-work. Robert Waldinger of Harvard actually became a ordained Zen Roshi because all of this empirical knowledge he was accumulating just wasn't scratching that deep existential itch. So what's in it for us? I think the answer I would give and more importantly, young would give is our souls. This is the soul discovering work of becoming who you really are,. understanding who you really were and becoming a little bit more whole.
