What Is Racism?
In the 1600s, it started emerging more. But by the time you get to the 1700s, it became codified in the United States of America. And this racialization process, I'm going to go through it quickly: certain human characteristics are selected and then those become signs of some kind of meaningful difference. Then these differences that are put into racial types, white, black, for example, are then essentialized as if these are just natural distinctions. Based on that essentialization, racism, we act as if you treat people based differently based on those racial differences. And that justifies unequal treatment.
