Water Control in the Desert of the Nabateans
Nabatians used their expertise at water control to enormous strategic advantage. Diodorus of sicily recounts how they built a system of secret hidden reservoirs across the desert. This meant that only they could take advantage of them, insuring that no competitors could move in on their lucrative trade routes. And in times of war, their secret reservoirs also gave them an advantage against their enemies.
