Once it gets incorporated into the capitalist system, it's immediately a lab for high technology partly because labor is scarce. William Shockley co-invented the point contact transistor and decides he's going to start a company that's going to build semiconducting transistors in Palo Alto. And so you can see the straight connection, right? It's because it's the high tech area.
