The story spirals from the narrator saying like, I don't like this wallpaper. It just spirals so quickly into the wallpaper becoming this really creepy ominous thing. That obsessiveness with something that is uncanny and terrifying and something she hates to me feels very much part of like the horror element as well. The fact that there are children or at least a child, there's a baby is a major reveal because of historical context.
