Mark O'Mara: I'm always at a pains to point out that I am not crusading for myself. What I am concerned about is the shrinking ground for the so-called midlist author who finds it harder and harder to make a living this way. The fewer voices, the poorer the culture is going to be. He says copyright exists to make sure writers have an independent source of income which doesn't depend on patrons or the government.
