Four seamen, Lion, Porter, Fair and Jones were the only men fit enough to work in the storm. There was nobody to keep watch, make meals or navigate. The ship was under the kind of pressure that might have broken her up. So well as she'd been crafted by Hoi, though, despite the constant rise and fall, plunging heavily into the troughs, she stayed whole. It's interesting they didn't just go, you're part of the plan until you're notpart of the plan, and leave him on the island.
