The Stagnation Hypothesis and Technology
This episode is principally about two topics, climate change and technological progress. I discuss with my guest the stagnation hypothesis, the notion that since the early 1970s technological progress has slowed except for a narrow cone of innovation in computers. Stagnationists focus on the supply side and their arguments stand in contra-distention to the secular stagnation hypothesis revived by Larry Summers in 2013 which focuses on the demand side.
