The Different Idioms of Revelation
Revelation is just such a different idiom than the rest of the New Testament. John at the very least sees himself as sort of writing the consummation of what the prophets have promised about how God is going to make all things new. And so I think with John, part of it is that you have to realize that he is writing in an apocalyptic genre.
