Octavia Butler - I'm a Black Woman Writing Science Fiction

Some of it is self protection and then some of it I think is that like I'm not that interesting to myself anymore. Well this kind of goes back to the Octavia Butler thing, right? She wrote about things that interested her probably because she was black like dynamics that have sure informed what she was thinking about and informed her experience. That's almost what you want as a trans person and as a writer. You're like, yes, I am interested in developing Robert because I'm interested in the whole concept of being real and transformation but I don't want people to like this piece or respect it because I am because of my identity.
