In the book of Revelation, God is never said to love anyone or anything. It's also not true that the Old Testament is strictly a God of wrath at all. Jesus ethical principles were revolutionary in the Greek or Roman worlds, which they were. But as a mythic character might a secular philosopher say, well, Jesus at least had some interesting sound, revolutionary, new ethical moral principles and that was an improvement on what was before.
