Synthetic Biology for Medically Relevant Applications

synthetic biology is an engineering discipline that focuses on creating or modifying biological systems for practical applications. Teisak Moon is a researcher at Washington State University and council member of the Engineering Biology Research Consortium, which brings together researchers from around the world. In his work, Tessa is looking to engineer a biosensor that can sense molecules in the gut and immediately respond to and alter the composition of the gut biome. He gave me the example of a supercharged probiotic yogurt that could potentially contain such a biosensor in the form of a bacterium with engineered enzymes.
