The Mystery Buyer, the Mystery Buyer?
The Orlando Sentinel published a story in May 1965 saying that Walt Disney had bought land for an East Coast Disneyland attraction. By the summer of 1965, Project Future was closing in on its goal. As the team quietly worked to acquire over 20,000 acres of land, rumors were rampant and theories about the mystery company began to circulate. A local news station even announced that they'd received a telegram from Detroit confirming that the mystery buyer was none other than the Ford Motor Company. The identity of the leaker was never discovered, but the damage was done.
