i wish cathleen kennedy read into the films as with as much a passion and fervor as you do for her to just keep continue to spouting off this pledge i think it just indicates for me a little bit how out of touch she is. ray never made any promise to luke she took on the name skywalker maybe by doing that it's inferred that by picking up the mantle of skywalker she will continue on by teaching future generations the way the force should be used.
