Don't lecture your children about soil and the importance of fertilizer. Get them to grow things that do tend to grow relatively quickly. Open up their eyes and minds to the joy of the natural world. Encourage them to believe they can make a difference, not just by worrying about it or shouting about it but being actively involved.
