The Meaning of Father in Germanic Words
Linguists realized that the p sound shifted to an f sound in the germanic languages. They also shared a compound word for god, which also used the word father. In sanscrit it was dispeter and in greek it was zu pater. The latin version of the word upater later became jupiter after another sound shift changed the y sound to a j sound. We often see the t sound in english where we have a d sound in latin or greek.
