The Importance of Carbohydrate Quality in Nutrition

In nutrition, we don't really run randomized control trials that are big enough and for long enough to capture those hard outcomes. And so yes, you can look at trials and cohorts together in meta analysis to seek consistency of evidence. But then I also looked at those three population groups. The general population without pre-existing heart disease or diabetes specific to type 1, type 2 and pre-diabetes; people with cardiovascular disease hypertension. And again, I saw this similar signal for fiber and whole grains across all populations who both trials and cohorts. So really strengthening that understanding that higher fiber or higher whole grain intake is beneficial.
