The Deep Dive of a Data Scientist

You really need to be able to do the deep dive on the data. If you can't understand that and you just want to ship stuff, you're not going to have a good time. So yes, it's a specific role. And how do we evaluate people to see whether they have this in them? Well, we don't have very strict interview process rules. But typically a good candidate will ask questions, not to you or not to add like solve the interview, but because they're curious and they will find holes in their thinking themselves. That ability is really, really good.
