The Importance of Winter
The good doctor had just lost his only daughter and had been stricken with grief. Mr. Sasonman encouraged him to go to the mountains in their stead and to deliver all of Clara's gifts and messages for them. Heidi was thrilled to see the doctor but understandably disappointed not to be receiving Clara and her grandma too. When it came time for him to leave he longed for Heidi to go with him but she had restored joy to his life. She promised that if he ever wrote she would come to Frankfurt immediately. At night winter has come to the Alps and we catch up with Heidi and her grandfather at their temporary winter accommodation in the village.
