European and American eels are both born in the sargasso sea. The only difference between the two is the number of vertebrae. When they arrive in europe, they transform into what we call a glass eel. It's like e small eel and almost completely transparent. They then live in fresh water for 20 or 30 or even 50 years before returning to their original home.
Where eels come from is a surprisingly difficult question to answer, in large part because scientists have never actually seen them reproduce in the wild. Gastropod explains why eels are somehow still so mysterious.
